Good sleep is one of the most important factors of public health and many are unaware that nutrition directly affects the quality of their sleep. Some foods promote deep sleep and others completely block it.
How does food relate to sleep?
Melatonin is a sleep hormone produced from tryptophan (an amino acid). Serotonin is the precursor to melatonin and is produced by the intestines. Magnesium stimulates the nervous system to relax and sleep.
Sleep-enhancing foods
- Warm milk: Tryptophan and calcium boost melatonin production
